An Arrest Is Not a Conviction
An arrest is an accusation, not proof of guilt. A prosecutor may decline or change a charge, and a court may dismiss it, acquit the accused, or enter another outcome. A booking entry does not state that result. New York records also can be amended or sealed, so an old copy may not reflect current legal status. Verify the disposition with the originating court and compare one's own fingerprint history through DCJS when appropriate.
