Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it is used, and the limited cases in which another party may receive it. By using Orange County Criminal History, you agree to the practices stated below.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log or stored copy of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers receive basic technical information whenever a page loads, including:

  • The IP address assigned to your device
  • Which browser you are using and its version
  • Your device type and operating system
  • Page-view times and the pages visited
  • Any referring website
  • How long the visit lasted on each page

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small device files that help measure use, such as popular pages and common exit points. Analytics services combine that traffic information for reporting. A browser can block cookies, although doing so may change how certain features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Delivering search requests to the selected partner
  • Maintaining reliable and prompt page delivery
  • Diagnosing errors and other technical faults
  • Measuring which content visitors use
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not create, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Orange County material here explains how to reach the Sheriff, courts, County Clerk, New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, DOCCS, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a third-party criminal record. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices apply to information submitted through those tools. We do not control those terms. Review the provider's policy before entering a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links lead to Orange County offices, New York courts and agencies, and outside search services. Once a visitor follows a link away, the destination's privacy policy controls. Read that policy before providing personal information.

Advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. That processing does not occur in our records.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:

  • Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
  • Search partners processing a query submitted to them
  • Advertising networks serving material on a page
  • A government or law-enforcement body acting under valid legal process

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security measures protect the data under our control. No online system is completely secure, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

The service is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect a minor's personal information. If such information is identified, we will remove it.

Your Data Rights

Applicable privacy law may provide rights concerning personal data. New York's Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, governs access to state and local government records; it does not turn this private site into a government records custodian. A visitor may still:

  • Request correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Ask what personal data we hold
  • Object to certain processing where a right applies
  • Request deletion where the law permits it

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised as practices or legal duties change. A replacement version will appear here with an updated effective date.
